Senior Services offers fitness classes, fitness-planning event

The Senior Services at Memorial Park Community Center, 510 Bert St., will offer two new, ongoing fitness classes, a special December class, and a fitness-planning event.

  • Pound (new, ongoing): 5-5:45p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Tuesday, Dec. 4. A 45-minute, full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. Participants also will use Ripstix® (lightly weighted drumsticks) to transform drumming into an effective way to work out. Cost is $3 per class. Participants should bring an exercise mat to class. Register in person at MPCC the evening of each class. Open to individuals 18 and older.
  • Cardio Drumming (new, ongoing): 5-5:45p.m., Wednesdays beginning Dec. 5. A 45-minute workout in which participants will engage in high-energy routines using drumsticks to hit an exercise ball sitting atop an 18-gallon bucket. Cost is free. Participants must bring bucket and exercise ball to class. Drumsticks will be provided. Register in person at MPCC the evening of class. Open to all ages. 
  • Fitness Planning (one-time event): 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6. Everyone’s body is unique. So are everyone’s goals. Participants will create an exercise/training plan during this fitness planning session to achieve their individual goals for the coming year. There is no cost for this event. Registration is not required. Open to ages 18 and older.  
  • Carol of the Kettlebells (December only): 8:30-9:30 a.m., Fridays in December, beginning Dec. 7. Kettlebells offer a unique and targeted approach to training in a challenging and engaging way. Cost is $2 per class. Register in person at MPCC the morning of each class. Open to individuals 50 and older.
