Solid Waste Services

Solid Waste Services manages garbage and recycling collection services for residential and commercial customers in Johnson City and Washington County. Approximately 95 percent of customers within the city have automated solid waste collection services. Our extensive recycling program includes curbside services, convenience sites, e-waste programs, and much more. Solid Waste Services strives to provide safe and efficient collection of our customers' solid waste items while maintaining a healthy environment for all those who live, work and visit our community.

Holiday Collection Schedule

Household waste is collected on all holidays except
Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

• Customers scheduled for collection on Thanksgiving Day will have collection the following Saturday.

• Customers scheduled for collection on Christmas Day, that falls on a Monday or Tuesday, will have collection the Saturday before Christmas.

• Customers scheduled for collection on Christmas Day, that falls on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, will have collection the following Saturday.

Special Events

As citizens begin spring cleaning, they are reminded that the City’s annual Great American Cleanup event will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Metals, e-waste and other household items not normally collected by City crews will be accepted. Prohibited items include: air conditioners, hazardous materials, paint, televisions, tires and CRT monitors. Loads should not exceed pickup truck size. Collection sites will be: the corner of Legion Street and State of Franklin Road; and Freedom Hall Parking Lot I (near the vocational school).
